College Freshmen 2015 per Beloit College

Last week I wrote about the kids entering the college class of 2014 and what their experiences were and were not. Now lets take a look at 2015.  Most of this year's freshman class were born in 1993 and were born as the Internet took us on the information highway and the birth of Amazon as a business not a river in South America. They take the word "online" for granted. Other events not seen before: women assuming command of U.S. Navy ships and girls serving as altar servers at a Catholic Mass.

Below are a few items from the Mindset List for the Class of 2015.

Ferris Bueller and Sloane Peterson could be their parents.

States and Velcro parent have always been requiring that they wear bike helmets.

There have always been at least two women on the Supreme Court.

School "blackboards" are now dry erase boards.

The expression "Don't touch that dial!" doesn't fly.

Women have never been too old to have children.

Life has always been like a box of chocolates.

They have always gone to school with Mohammed and Jesus.

Chicken soup has always been good for the soul.

Jimmy Carter has always been seen as a smiling elder man who makes TV appearances during elections.

Most have grown up with an artificial Christmas Tree during the holidays.

Music has always been available via free downloads (but that may change in the near future, every commodity has its price).

Moderate amounts of red wine and baby aspirin have always been thought good for the heart. (A bottle of red wine would be pushing the envelope.)

Adults have always been arguing about health care policies and premiums.

"PC" has meant Personal Computer not Political Correctness.

With that last comment I will close for this week. Next week I'll do the 2016 list.
