Getting back in the groove

His Lordship is home so I am back on a sort of, kind of, schedule once again. Did meet my daily word count while he was gone but got a bit behind on the research.

Since I write contemporary women't fiction I scour the newspapers each day for up to date information. Also, since I create my own towns I need activities in the surrounding areas. The difficult part is what to save. What will give the characters a life. They can't spend all their time on the front porch watching their neighbors...well some of them will...they need a life, get out of town once in a while. Where will they go? What are their interests? Will the hero and heroine agree on everything. NO! That would make for a one page story.

So why the newspaper? Since my stories are set in a specific county in SW Florida I look for events, business, restaurants etc. in the area that people would attend and can connect with. I like to call this flavoring the story.

Is there a problem with this approach? A bit because I have to store all this information someplace and my file cabinet is filled to overflowing and needs to be sorter. On the other hand, what do I keep and what do I throw away? As sure as the sky is blue today I will need some piece of information that I threw away two weeks ago.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.
