It's been a while

It always blows my mind when I check the last date of a blog. This time I will partially blame my absence on a case of a mini vacation in New England, where I was very, very cold and receiving the edits on my book the day after I got back.

Now that we have the season of giving and receiving behind us I will make a comment on one of my gifts.

I have a very thoughtful son-in-law who always goes the extra mile when choosing gifts. He knows I am an avid reader so he always tries to find something very special. This time it was a signed copy of My Brave Boys by Mike Pride and Mark Travis. Mark Travis is the brother of a mutual friend of my daughter and son-in-law. The book is subtitled to War with Colonel Cross and the Fighting Fifth. Mr. Travis very kindly signed the book for me.

The Fighting Fifth was a New Hampshire regiment and Col. Edward Cross is a complex and interesting character and I will finish reading the book.

The only problem I have is that I am a Virginian and you can imagine where my sympathy lies even though I know the outcome.
