Technology is moving along at warp speed. For some of us it is difficult to keep up, then again we have the world at our finger tips via our keyboard.
Just today His Lordship was watching The Tudors and the 'sweating disease' was mention as the cause of death of one of the royal children. I must look like a walking encyclopedia because His Lordship asked me what was 'sweating disease'? Since I worked in medicine for years than I like to admit he must think I know about all diseases. This was a new one for me. I had a lot of assumptions but you know the old saying about that. So where did I go? To Google, of course.
Sweating disease was prevalent in England in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. No one knew the cause other than it was fatal, especially in the 15th century but no so much in the 16th. It was especially bad among the upper classes and royalty but no so much among the poor. Also it was definitely not the plague, which popped up now and again back in those days.
After reading about it I could only hope it doesn't make an appearance in our century. However, now we have antibiotics and the CDC which is busy at the moment trying to find out why all those folks got sick on the cruise ship.
Gee, what if........
