An afternoon in Arcadia

I will be heading out of town tomorrow but before I go I wanted to share with you my visit to Arcadia, FL.

Yesterday afternoon I was invited to speak to the L & E Literary and Embroidery Club in Arcadia. What a wonderful group of women. It was rewarding to learn that southern charm and manners are not a thing of the past. The L & E Club was organized in 1910. This year their theme is local authors and I was privileged to be the first guest speaker. It was an awesome experience.

The other thing that amazed me was the town of Arcadia itself. I have been to Main Street many times visiting the various shops and stopping for lunch. It is much bigger than I thought. How did I discover that? By getting temporarily disoriented (never admit to being lost) even with using Carmen my Garmin.

Now my curiosity has been aroused and I will have to delve into the history of the area. I am sure several of the ladies I met yesterday would be willing to help me with that project. Big cities may have a lot to offer but there is something to be said for the ambiance of a quaint small Florida town.
