I am reading a fascinating book by David Houle titled Entering The Shift Age. As rule I would not pick this book up to read but I had received it as a complementary gift at a conference. Now I can't wait to turn the page.
Mr. Houle is a futurist. He explains where we came from and where we're going as well as how rapidly we are traveling toward the shift age into technology. It is a feast for thought. Right now, according to Mr. Houle, we are in the transformation age. That one blew my mind because I know I am experiencing it but didn't realize I got on the bus, plane, rocket ship, whatever to make the journey.
Could also be because I have a birthday coming up (I am not going to say when or which one) this book put into black and white what has transpired over the years I been living on Planet Earth. For instance, we have gone from having one telephone in the house to carrying one in our pocket that will allow us to talk to anyone in the world.
Think about the people who left their homes in Europe to come to America, some of them never saw their families again. Now via the computer they can Skype face to face.
Many people don't go to an office to work, they work from home. Once again via the computer.
We also have the marriage of technology to medicine. Think CAT scans and MRI as well as robotic surgery and pacemakers to keep the heart beating.
There is so much happening on daily basis. There is so much more to learn and accept.
Will have to close for now and go back to reading about the future.
