Well it is that day of the week again and so far I've written something each Thursday. This is some kind of a record for me.
Readers have asked me where I get stories from, especially the characters. I tell them I live in a sit com.
Today I want to write about one of the characters in that sit com, Jack aka the Flash. Jack is our dog. We have to guess as to the breed because his mama wasn't particular and his daddy was a travelin' man. I think he is part Akita and part Chow. Akita because of the shape of his face, Chow because of his partially black tongue. The mutt is a real love sponge but let him find a door partially open and he is gone.
My husband was trying to unfurl the flag on the front porch banister when the wind blew the door open. Wham, Jack was gone. (Blondi, the golden retriever, ran around to the back door). Needless to say my hubby was a wreck. We get in the car and go searching Jack's usual routes to no avail. Have his lordship drop me off at the house so I can get my straw hat and sun glasses to continue the search on foot.
I am just starting down the street when here comes a gray pick-up truck with Jack sitting in the passenger side like he is having a ball. The driver rolls the window down to ask if it is my dog and I recognize the driver as a friend. What were the chances??? He had found Jack strolling along a busy street behind our house (an new route for Jack), opened the passenger door and the dog hopped in. The man had never met our Jack but somehow found his way to our house.
So that was the adventure yesterday afternoon. Somehow it doesn't sound as adventurous when I write it down because it is missing all the words coming from his lordship as well as the few choice words that flew between us. That's the part that will end up in a book.
