Don't know about y'all but I can't or prefer not to start my day with reading the funnies. They kick start my day because then my day starts with a chuckle or sometimes I laugh out loud.
Today a lot of the comic strips deal with 'issues', however I prefer the ones that are fun. Then yesterday I started wondering about what happened to the comic strips of yesteryear. What happened to Dixie Dugan, Kerry Drake, Little Iodine, Etta Kett, Nancy and Sluggo, and Nancy's auntie, Fritzy Ritz and her boyfriend, Phil. Then there were the ones that were in the Sunday paper because you got an extra bonus. Brenda Starr and Katy Keen would have paper dolls as part of the strip.
My dad always like Prince Valiant because of the detailed art work. The funnies played an important role in the life of a family to the point that the Mayor of New York, Fiorello LaGuardia (1934-1945)read the comics on the radio during a citywide newspaper strike. Was that because some people called him "The Little Flower" because he was only 5'2" tall?
There are quite a few from 'back in the day' that are still around. I still see Mary Worth, Rex Morgan, M.D. and The Phantom. Why do they have such staying power? I will look forward to any comments.
Have a great week and be sure to start your day with smile and a chuckle when you read the comics.
