News of the Unusual

My favorite part of the newspaper (and yes I still read the paper every morning)is what is below the fold. Yesterday I couldn't believe my eyes when I read about Tide detergent. It seems that the police raided the home of a drug dealer and found drugs but they also found nearly 20 (now was there 20 or not?) large bottles of liquid Tide. His customers were paying with stolen Tide. Seems like that product has become a hot commodity among thieves at supermarkets and drug stores, the premise being that everybody needs to do laundry and since Tide is the most popular detergent and is expensive it is cheaper to buy it on the black market. It has gotten to the point where some businesses are attaching electronic anti-theft tags but it doesn't seem to be working out well. Supposedly an informant in one area encouraged an undercover officer to pay with Tide rather than cash! Who would've thunk it.

The only thing that topped that article was the one next to it about a town in Italy where deaths were barred in a village. Why? Funny you should ask. It seems that there is no cemetery in the village and there is a feud going on with a town that has a cemetery. The closing line was that "Unfortunately two elderly citizens disobeyed."

Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.

Dear Ginny,

They go to the same place as the missing socks. (Go figure).
