This must be some kind of a record for me...5 weeks in a row I have manage to write something in my blog.
This time I have put my favorite reference book, "Uncle John's Legendary Lost Bathroom Reader", back on the shelf and will wing it with personal opinion. However, the above mentioned reference book is still among my very favorites.
Now for the subject at hand. Years ago I read a book by Vance Packard called "The Hidden Persuaders" and the other day I was reminded as to how true that title was. I was waiting in a doctor's office and picked up a magazine to read an article that was featured on the cover.
Well I was in a medical office so I thought I would start with page one. As I turned the pages (never did get to the article I wanted to read)I was bombarded with "messages" about using various products from make-up that was a miracle, would make me look younger to what I should eat and what was in the products that I like and shouldn't eat if I want to stay healthy. What to use to clean my home that wouldn't hurt the environment. However my favorite was the one for toilet paper. (Do I have a bathroom fixation???) While it is a necessity I do not wear 4" heels and jewelry when I perform the task of changing the roll.
I know that if we didn't have the advertisements we wouldn't have magazines or television or radio or any media for that matter. Advertisers support the industry. And it sure did in this instance. My name was called before I could get to the article. So what did I do. The only thing I could--I stopped at the store and bought the magazine.
