Dogs

Happened to browsing through one of my favorite books...yep you guessed it, Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. I tell you the stuff you learn in there makes you a great Trivial Pursuit player.

Today's topic is Dog Hair.

Did you know (according to Kendall Crolius in her book Knitting with Dog Hair) that you shouldn't waste all those lovely clumps of pet hair that balls up in the corners, under and behind couches as well as next to the kitchen table where you mate sneaks food to the dog. No you should gather it and prepare it for knitting. The upside to this is that you don't have to kill the animal. One of the down sides is that moths and the good old flea love dog hair, so it is best to store it in a plastic bag. The end product is called chiengora. It came about by combining the French word for "dog" and angora.

Whatever works. It is supposed to soft, fluffy, very warm and sheds water. What a combination. the hair should be at least two inches long. Some of the best breeds are collies, Afghans, poodles, and golden retrievers and huskies.

I'm in luck as I have a golden retriever. I also have one that is questionable because his mama wasn't particular and his daddy was a traveling man. However, I think I'll stick to writing and continue to vacuum every day.
